The Edinburgh Trophy is a knock out competition played at the end of season for
teams in the Division one and Two competitions.
Our Cleanways Thistle Division Two enter thinking it would just give us a final
game to wrap up the 2013 season but to the surprise of many the team went
all the way to final.
First up was Southend United in the quater final the score was locked up 1 all at
full time and remained that throughout extra time and went penalties after the
first 5 penalties it was 3 each on penalties so into sudden death penalties
after the 2nd round of sudden death penalties Southend missed and we took
out the game 6 – 5.
Next up was the semis against Oldboys Black who had already beaten us twice
throughout the season so the team went into this game as under dogs but were
determined to win this game and we did 2 – 0.
So off to the final it was Cleanways Thistle Division Two versus Western Rovers
(formerly Riverton) Division One. Once again we were the under dogs but we
were calm and relaxed for the big game, 45 minutes prior to kick off Western
were going through it’s warm up drills and we were just starting to arrive no
rush plenty of time. 10 – 15 minutes to go in true Division Two fashion we
started our warm up shots at the goal keeper. The game was even, end to end
football and both team had chances, nil all at full time, extra time no
problem we had practice (not) for this but had experience. Half way through the
second half of extra time we scored and the rest is history .. CLEANWAYS
